Welcome to JY Fly Fishing a Professional Fly Fishing Guide Service

Enjoy a day on the water.

Fly fishing is easier than you think.

Other than upgrades in our fly fishing gear, not much else has changed.  Patience, presentation and adapting to what is happening at the moment on the water around you is the same successful approach to a rewarding day.

My fly fishing guide service offers float trips on the East and West Branch of the Delaware River.  Wade trips are on the Beaverkill River and the Willowemoc Creek.

While fishing this beautiful water system, you will use a wide variety of techniques, including dry flies, wet flies, nymphing and streamers.  Adapting to the weather and conditions of the water you will be fishing will help to insure a successful day.

I believe we all should be stewards of the waters at our disposal and I am extremely committed to protecting the future of our fisheries we enjoy.

Along with my many years of fly fishing experience, I am also an Orvis Guide and graduate of the Western Rivers Guide School in Victor, Idaho.

    Keeping our waters clean.

As a young boy, I started fly fishing the waters of North Central Pennsylvania many times heading deep off the beaten path for our mountain brook trout. I also enjoyed the many beautiful local freestone and limestone streams that offered me year-round waters to fly fish.

After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh, I headed off for a career as a directional drilling engineer in oil and gas exploration working on drilling rigs all over the world. The work took me throughout the lower forty-eight, Alaska and the beautiful waters in the Gulf of Mexico as well as travel abroad to the Persian Gulf, Africa and South America. These travels offered interesting and sometime exotic waters to fish. Many of the indigenous people who helped guide me along their local waters often shared language barriers, but spoke the same language when we held a fly rod in our hands.

Living in the Hudson Valley and near the beautiful Upper Delaware River System and Beaverkill River we are all blessed to have such amazing fisheries so close to home. I especially love having the opportunity to teach beginners how to fly fish. In addition to JY Fly Fishing, I am a fly fishing guide at Orvis and an instructor for the Orvis Fly Fishing School.

At home I live with my wife Jan, who works for a conservation organization and my dog Jack, a yellow lab. We enjoy the solitude of the great outdoors as an escape from our busy lives. When time allows, I love getting away to float the South Fork of the Snake River, Teton River and the Henry’s Fork in Idaho.
